1-What circumstances or conditions would favor an organism becoming fossilized?
2-What evidence is there for mass extinction occurring now in the world?
3- Why is fossilization an extremely rare event?

1- ?? areas where wind & water can contribute to spreading particles (beaches,swamps). Idk if thats right... and idk what other conditions it occurs in.

3- ?? b/c in most habitats decomposition is rapid & burial is slow- an vice versa. In any situation for fossilization to occur burial & decomposition has to occur and they happen at their own pace.

1) Fossilization best occurs in places where the organism can be quickly covered. That is why floods and water conditions tend to have lots of fossils. Also, lots of fossils seem to come where they were covered with volcanic ash. In short, you are right...places where the organism can be quickly covered and not torn up by scavangers.
2) Well, we have scientist who track the populations of animals, and we can also observe 'die-offs', when large numbers of an organism turn up dead for abnormal reasons. Right now there is a die off of amphibians like frogs and toads. These animals live in watery conditions and their skin is very sensitive to pollutants dumped in the water. Their dying serves as a warning to us.
3) Most organisms that die do not do so in places that they can be covered and preserved from time and scavangers. A resting place where decomposition is slow and burial is rapid is best.
