What can I do to stop my Sony CDXGT-210 cd player from skipping all the time?
I just installed the head unit in a '97 Tacoma both factory made CDs and mp3 CD-Rs skip...a lot. The unit is brand new and skips all the time. Sometimes it just stops playing for periods of up to maybe 20 seconds before it resumes playing the CDs (while still skipping of course).
I took it out once and used a 12V power supply to power the unit and plugged a stereo speaker in. I played a factory-made CD and the it played fine with no skipping. And sometimes it even skips when the key is only in the ACC position.
It doesn't seem like a lens cleaner would help, but I might give it a try. Also, I noticed that the bolts attaching the stock unit were in ridiculously tight. Should I try and find a pneumatic drill or something to put these bolts in?
Another concerning issue is that the faceplate doesn't easily pop off like when the unit is not installed in the car. It sort of gets stuck on the lip of the center bezel. Could this contribute to the problem?
